In addition to its current critically acclaimed runon the film festival circuit, Montage of Heck will also receive a more traditional theatrical release in April.

The theatrical release of Montage of Heck accomplishes two things: Firstly, many Nirvana fans especially those in the 72 other countries where the film will hit theatres dont have access to HBO and therefore would have to wait until the moviesDVD release, which Morgen penciled in for November, Billboard reports. Also, the films brief U.S. theatrical run would make Montage of Heck eligible for next years Academy Awards, where it could contend in the Best Documentary Feature category.

A Montage of Heck companion book, set to hit shelves April 7th, will precede the films theatrical release and May 4th HBO premiere. However, Morgen still hasnt revealed the specifics about the documentarys soundtrack, which the director previously revealed would featurea mind-blowing 12-minute acoustic Cobain unheard track.
