Netflix Orders New Series From Simpsons Creator Matt Groening

Netflix has picked up a new animated comedy from Simpsons creator Matt Groening starring Broad Citys Abbi Jacobson, Deadline reports. The series received a 20-episode order with the first 10 expected to premiere next year.

Disenchantment is an adult fantasy set in the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland. The series centers around the hard-drinking princess Bean (Jacobson), her elf friend Elfo and personal demon Luci. Comedian Eric Andre is attached to voice Luci with actor Nat Faxon voicing Elfo.

Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you, Groening said.

Along with its main cast, Disenchantment will feature various voice over veterans that have worked on both The Simpsons and Groenings other show Futurama, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille and David Herman. Other performers include Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery.

Groening has reportedly been in talks with Netflix about Disenchantment since last year. He remains an executive producer on The Simpsons, which wrapped its 28th season in May and will return for Season 29 this fall.

As for Jacobson, the comedian will appear in Dustin Guy Defas new film of New York City vignettes, Person to Person, out July 28th. On Tuesday, it was announced that the premiere date for Season Four of Broad Citywould be pushed back from late August to September 13th.
