Jimmy Fallon turned 40 on Friday, and he celebrated the occasion in a suitable Tonight Show fashion with an all-star surprise bash.
After announcing that the Tonight Show gang had joined together on a surprise birthday gift for him, Fallon drew back a curtain to reveal a giant cake. Seth Rogen, in all his naked glory, popped out of the pastry, followed shortly afterward by James Franco, similarly nude except for a cops hat and bowtie, declaring that Fallon was under arrest. But the real surprise was Stevie Wonder, who emerged from behind a second curtain as a sort of living birthday card, jamming on his 1981 Happy Birthday song.
Wonder later sat down with Fallon for an interview, where he talked about his upcoming arena tourof the 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life. The show opens at New Yorks Madison Square Garden on November 6th, and Wonder dropped a few hints at what may be in store in addition to the 21 songs from the original record. If they call me back onstage, well do like Superstition,' he said. I understand that Jeff Beck is in town, maybe hell do a little somethin somethin.
Wonder then let the birthday boy pick his favorite Songs in the Key of Life track for a live performance. What do you want me to do? he asked. Whats your favorite song? As requested, he then performed Sir Duke with the Roots, followed by All Day Sucker as a web exclusive.
