Fall Out Boy Pay Tribute to Spinal Tap on Conan

If This Is Spinal Tap taught us anything, its that futuristic space pods look cool onstage, but they tend to malfunction. Fall Out Boy learned the hard way last night on Conan when bassist Pete Wentz spent the first third of My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark trapped in his pod, just like Derek Smalls did on Rock and Roll Creation.

Fall Out Boy Tough Out Torture in The Phoenix

Speaking of Smalls (er, that is, Harry Shearer), the Spinal Tap bassist just happened to be on hand to help Fall Out Boy in a moment of need, stepping up to hold down the low end. Later, in another nod at Rob Reiners 1984 mockumentary, there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf. Which tended to understate the hugeness of the object.

My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark is from Fall Out Boys latest album, Save Rock and Roll, which came out this week.
