In addition to being seemingly everywhere all of the time, actor James Franco will now be the subject of a documentary. First-time director Lisa Vangellow began shooting Franco: A Documentary last June, capturing the actors controversies in the art and academic worlds as well as his career in film and on Broadway, The Wrap reports. Francos family and friends, including Seth Rogen and New York Museum of Modern Art chief curator-at-large Klaus Biesenbach, are expected to appear in the film. The documentary is currently in the early editing stages.

Vangellow likely had a lot to work with during her shooting period. Earlier this year, Franco announced he would begin work on a sequel to the cult 2003 disasterpiece The Room. He also had to consider an offer from Kanye West and Kim Kardashian to recreate the Bound 3 spoof hed made of their Bound 2 video at their wedding; Francos Bound 3 snuggle buddy Rogen explained that it would not be funny and they have since abandoned the idea. And his 2010 collection of short stories about badly behaved Bay Area kids, Palo Alto, was made into a movie by Gia Coppola.

Franco told Rolling Stone in early May that the reason he wanted to work with Coppola was because he was impressed with a series of photographs she had taken of teenagers. There was a focus on youth that somehow managed to be totally on the level of the kids in her pictures but had a slight sense of distance, a sort of outside perspective that felt really smart without feeling above it all, he said. I knew shed never directed a movie before, but there was something about those photos that made me think shed be perfect for this.
IMDb also lists 14 movies in various states of post-production that feature Franco as an actor to come out over the next couple of years, and four movies he has directed, including Bukowski and an adaptation of William Faulkners The Sound and the Fury, in various states of completion. His novel, Actors Anonymous, came out in 2013, and he participated in art projects in which he dressed up as actress Janet Leigh for her iconic Psycho scene and as photographer Cindy Sherman for a recreation of her Untitled Film Stills project.
