Michael Fassbender Battles Through Violent Assassins Creed Trailer

The body count piles up with startling speed in the latest trailer for Assassins Creed, the Michael Fassbender-starring film based on the popular video game.

Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a criminal related to a member of an ancient group called the Assassins. Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Fassbender learns the tricks of his ancestors trade. Much of the trailer shows him putting those skills to use, slicing and dicing his way through a variety of adversaries while clad in the dark, hooded cloak that assassins seem to agree is the best garb for undercover work.

Its not like Star Wars where you have the dark side and the light, Fassbender toldScreenrant. Both of these factions they contradict themselves all the time. And they are hypocritical, as well, of their beliefs So, morally, youve got a very gray area that both of them are working in. I thought that was unusual for this sort of film, and also just a lot more interesting.

Fassbender stars opposite Marion Cotillard, who previously starred opposite the actor in an adaptation of Macbeth. The director of Macbeth, Justin Kurzel, is also at the helm for Assassins Creed. Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams are also set to appear in the action film.

Assassins Creed hits screens December 21st.
