Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson and modern outlaw Jamey Johnson lament the swift passage of time and take a stroll through a classic car museum in the new video for Everybody Wants to Be Twenty-One.
Filmed at Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, the clip sees the two men performing against a backdrop of classic imports from England, Germany and Italy. Anderson kicks things off, reminiscing about how when he was a kid, he dreamed of the things hed do when he was older. Likewise, as the video slides from black and white to color, Johnson sings about being able to enlist at 18 but not being old enough to legally drink. But in the end, theyre both looking backward, that magical age of 21 having slipped past and left them longing for their younger days.
The young wish they were older, and the old wish they were young/Everybody wants to be 21, they sing in the chorus.
Everybody Wants to Be Twenty-One appears on the 2018 album Anderson,the Georgia natives 72nd release. In addition to joining the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001, Anderson was inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018, having written numerous hits for other artists from Connie Smith to Brad Paisley over the past seven decades.
