Watch Mark Wahlberg Fight Through the Deepwater Horizon Disaster


Mark Wahlberg strives to survive the disaster that sparked the devastating 2010 BP oil spillin the new trailer for Deepwater Horizon.

The film focuses on a crew of workers stationed at the titular offshore oil rig, centered around Wahlbergs portrayal of Mike Williams (inThe New York Times article the movie is based on, Williams was an electronics technician whotestifiedthat he raised concerns about the rigs safety before the disaster).

Much of the trailer features calm-before-the-storm shots of Williams and his family, as well as life on the rig, though John Malkovichs character delivers several disconcerting lines in afrank drawl: Were a big company with millions of moving parts. We all work very hard to ensure those moving parts all function as a means to a very profitable ends for all of us. When the pressure finally cracks, the clip turns frantic with Williams and the others running through torrents of oil, clouds of black smoke and frequent, ridiculous explosions.

Deepwater Horizon was directed by Peter Berg and also stars Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan OBrien and Kate Hudson. It opens September 30th.
