The late night music wars are on. Just days after it was revealed that Metallica would spendfive nights performing on the last week of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, and less than a month after Foo Fighters enjoyed an all-star weeklong residencyon Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has recruited U2to join him and house band theRoots for anentire week. U2 is coming back Monday, November 17, for an entire week, Fallon told his viewers Monday night. Incidentally, both U2 and Metallica will spend the same week performing every night on late night TV, but thankfully the Ferguson and Fallon time slots dont overlap, asStereogum notes.
U2 previously appeared on the debut episodeof The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back on February 17th, performing their charity single Invisible. U2 also sat down on Fallons couch to perform a unique rendition of Ordinary Love alongside the Roots.
At the time of theirTonight Show interview, Bono and the Edge talked to the new host about where they were at on their new album. Were in the studio still. We really want the songs to be right, The Edge said, revealing that the band had 30 songs in the works, with the common theme being the period of music, in our lives and history, when we really came into being, turned on by music, the seeds that made us want to be in a band.
Over seven months later, the band would release their surprise LP Songs of Innocence, with a handful of those tracks probably bound to the Tonight Show stage over the course of the November 17th week.
