VMAs 2014 Winners: Beyonce Dominates MTVs Big Night


Did you know that Arcade Firewon an award at the MTV Video Music Awards, or thatBeyoncwon three Moonmen in addition to her Video Vanguard Award? Probably not. Even though MTV wrapped up the ceremony 15 minutes early ample time to give out more Moonmen the Awards portion of the Video Music Awards were an afterthought. While the broadcast only focused on the results of seven categories, it was revealed post-show that Eminem, OK Goand DJ Snake with Lil Jonalso scooped up VMAs.

Arcade Fire who were across the country performing with surprise guest David Byrne at Brooklyns Barclays Center (home of last years VMAs) scored the Moonman for Best Art Direction for their video Reflektor. Its the bands first Video Music Award, and itll look nice on the mantle next to the Album of the Year Grammy and all those Juno Awards.

Beyonctook home three VMAs: Best Video With a Social Message and Best Cinematography for Pretty Hurts and Best Collaboration for Drunk In Love with Jay Z. Eminems Rap God received Best Editing, those clever dudes in OK Go were a no-brainer for the Best Visual Effects prize and DJ Snake and Lil Jons head-banging (literally) Turn Down For What music video secured Best Direction for the filmmaking duo The Daniels (Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert).

Of the five Video of the Year award nominees, only Pharrell Williamsand his Happy went home empty-handed. Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball took the big award itself (followed by an acceptance speech delivered by a homeless person), Beyonc won her three VMAs plus executed a perfect Video Vanguard performance, Sias Chandelier scored Best Choreography and even Iggy Azalea, nominated for Fancy, had a partial claim to Ariana Grandes Best Female Video win for their Problem.
