Jamie Foxx to Host Beat Shazam Game Show

Jamie Foxx has been tapped to host Beat Shazam, as Deadline reports. Produced by The Voices Mark Burnett, Dont Forget the Lyrics creator Jeff Appleoff and Shazam Entertainment Limited, the interactive musical game show is based on the Shazam app, the popular app that identifies songs. It will air on Fox.

Foxx will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Burnett, Appleoff, Rich Riley and Lauren Zalaznick.

Jamie is a quadruple-threat and creative genius, Burnett said in a statement, via Deadline. He is an incredible actor, comedian, singer and dancer. Also, his musical knowledge is so great that he could probably Beat Shazam.

On the show, contestant teams will compete two at a time in a clocked game of name that tune. Winners from each round advance and the team with the highest score will face off with the actual Shazam app for a chance to win a cash prize.

Shazam, which was established in 1999 as a dial-up pay service and later became the most popular song ID app, recently expanded into television. They partnered with brands to make Super Bowl commercials Shazam-identifiable in 2010 and in 2012 they worked with American Idol to provide exclusive content to users who tagged the show while watching. Shazam also added the ability to identify television shows via their audio.

Last week, Foxx appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden to perform a medley of public domain songs.

Beat Shazam is expected to premiere this summer on Fox.
