Quarry: Watch a Cover of Sam & Daves Goodnight Baby

For anyone missing the two-fisted action of Cinemaxs recently completed Banshee and Strike Back, the network plans to win you over again with its latest hard-boiled series Quarry. Set in Memphis in 1972, the show stars Logan Marshall-Green as Mac Conway, a Vietnam vet who reluctantly puts his Marine-trained skills to use as part of a shadowy organization of hired killers.

To help recreate the atmosphere of a southern city in the early Seventies, Quarry features a soundtrack filled with vintage rock, country and soul, some of which is performed in each episode by modern musicians, playing live.

In the clip above, a pair of Memphis police detectives (played by Happy Anderson and Josh Randall) meet in a bar to talk about how their latest case is hitting too close to home. While the cops commiserate over beer and whiskey, the band J. Roddy Walston & the Business covers Goodnight Baby, a deep cut from R&B legends Sam & Dave.

The smoky club and gritty tune establish the world of this show, where violent men do business against the backdrop of a changing America.

Quarry debuts on Friday, September 9th at 10 p.m. on Cinemax.
