The magical world of Roald Dahls classic book The BFG is further unlocked in the new trailer for the Steven Spielberg-directed film adaptation. The Disney film will hit theatres on July 1st.

The book and film tell the tale of an orphan named Sophie who is whisked off by the BFG, voiced by Academy Award-winner Mark Rylance. The Big Friendly Giant and Sophie become friends, and he explains to her why he took her from the orphanage: Because I hears your lonely heart. Trouble ensues as the treacherous Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) arrive, threatening Sophies life.

Dahl released The BFG in 1982, and since then, its been adapted as an animated film released on British TV in 1989. Many of Dahls works have been adopted for both stage and screen, including the popular 1996 film (and current Broadway musical)Matildaand Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which will debut on Broadway next year and was most recently adapted by Tim Burton.

Spielberg also released a clip to Facebook to preview the trailer and explore the influence Roald Dahl has had on him. I have spent pretty much all of my years as a father reading to my kids really great childrens books, andBFGwas among them, he says of the story. According to the director, the film will not only be a great companion to many of Disneys projects, but to many of his own as well.
