Stephen Colbert: Donald Trump Is Shutdowns Biggest Loser

Stephen Colbert discussed the latest shutdown stalemate during his Late Show monologue Thursday, with the late-night host pointing out that while both sides are losers in this shutdown, Donald Trump is the biggest loser.

It doesnt look like its going to end any time soon because earlier today, as expected, the Senate rejected competing Republican and Democrat plans to end Trumps shutdown, Colbert said. Even though both bills lost, the biggest loser here was the President, because the Democrats bill got more votes than Trumps.

Colbert added, Did you hear that? The Democrats won the losing.

Colbert then discussed the plight of the federal workers who cant make ends meet and, in some extreme cases, have been forced to sleep in homeless shelters while the stalemate in Washington, D.C. rages on.

Trumps not the only loser here There are other losers: You see, we cant forget there are 800,000 federal workers still going without pay and things are getting dire, Colbert said.

The union is worried is because their members are not getting enough sleep because due to the shutdown. Unpaid air traffic controllers are waiting tables and driving for Uber from the time leftover from their 10-hour shift.

Colbert also tackled reports that Jared Kushner has taken over the reins on the White Houses shutdown talks. Great! So Mideast peace and the opioid epidemic is all wrapped up, Colbert said.

Hes reportedly showing a burst of self-confidence following his help in passing criminal-justice legislation. A burst of self-confidence? So, before it was just a squirt of smug arrogance.
