Bilbo Baggins Faces Smaug in Breathtaking New Hobbit Clip

If you thought Benedict Cumberbatch was terrifying as the nefarious Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, now hes lending his menacing voice to a dragon. The second trailer for Peter Jacksons The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug features the titular dragon hissing and spitting fire at Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman).

The dramatic, action-packed clip for the second installment of Jacksons Hobbit trilogy also finds the Dwarves of Erebor teaming up with Legolas (Orlando Bloom) to take back their homeland with the help of Cate Blanchetts arrow-sniping elf Galadriel, as well as the Jackson-created composite character, Tauriel (newcomer Evangeline Lilly). And of course Ian McKellan is back once more as Gandalf, sounding as grave and foreboding as ever when he utters, Weve been blind, and in our blindness our enemy has returned though McKellan really wins with the eyebrow pop he offers Bilbo after the latter lies about finding the ring.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens on December 13th.
