Joe Biden to Guest Star on Law & Order: SVU

Just days after delivering an emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Joe Biden found himself speaking to a much different audience Friday: The cast and crew of Law & Order: SVU. Biden filmed a cameo for the long-running NBC procedural, joining star Mariska Hargitay in a scene where he praises the SVU team for addressing the nations rape kit backlog.

While in New York, the Vice President will tape an appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on the rape kit backlog and efforts to end violence against women, the White House confirmed in a statement, US Weekly reports.

Hargitay and Biden previously met at a May gala in support of Hargitays Joyful Heart Foundation, which seeks to educate and empower the survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse. In recent years, Biden has also joined the fight against sexual assaults on college campus, penning a moving letter to the victim of a Stanford assault.

NBC added, The issue reflects the real-life efforts of Biden and series star Hargitay, who both recently spoke at the United State of Women Summit at the White House in June to address the national backlog of untested rape kits, and the pervasive culture of violence and sexual assault against women. The vice president was also honored by Hargitays Joyful Heart Foundation last May for his commitment to ending domestic violence and sexual assault.

Bidens episode of Law & Order: SVU airs September 28th, a week after the series Season 18 season premiere on September 21st.
