Netflix has unveiled the release date for The Get Downs next set of episodes. The shows Part II will premiere this spring. The network announced the return of Baz Luhrmann and Stephen Adly Guirgis hip-hop drama via a short trailer.
In the brief 15-second clip, lively performance scenes are interwoven with audience clips, a motorcycle ride and DJ shots. Were going to take our music from minor to major league, a voiceover says.
Set in the late 1970s in the South Bronx, the show recreates the fictionalized moments leading to the birth of hip-hop. The cast includes Jaden Smith, Shameik Moore, Giancarlo Esposito and Jimmy Smits. Nas, who also writes raps for the show, is an executive producer and Grandmaster Flash serves as an associate producer.
As Deadline notes, Part II takes place in 1978, one year after the first six episodes, which premiered last August, took place.
The Get Down will return to Netflix on April 7th.
