Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is developing a new film connected to the critically acclaimed series. The writer-director is currently plotting a two-hour feature,Variety reports,though its unclear whether the project will wind up in theaters or on television. According toThe Albuquerque Journalreports, citing the New Mexico Film Office, the project will be titled Greenbrier, with production running from mid-November through early February.
The film office would neither confirm nor deny the films connection to Breaking Bad, though a source close to the project affirmed that detail to The Albuquerque Journal. The publication also teased a longline for the film, which reportedly tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom. Slash Film confirmed that the kidnapped man will be Breaking Bad character Jesse Pinkman, with the story picking up after the shows turbulent finale episode. Aaron Paul will reportedly reprise his co-starring role, which earned him three Emmy wins for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Bryan Cranston, who played the series iconic protagonist, Walter White, acknowledged that there appears to be a movie version of Breaking Bad in an interview with The Dan Patrick Show, though the noted he hasnt read or received the script. Theres a question of whether or not well even see Walter White in this movie, he said, adding that he would take part in the project if needed.
If Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, then sure, absolutely, he said. This idea, from what Im told, gets into those, at least a couple of the characters that were not completed as far as their journey.
Gilligan, who also created the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul, signed a three-year deal with Sony Pictures Television in July. Greenbrier, if confirmed, would mark his first project for the company.No official details including casting or potential release dates are currently known.A rep for Gilligan did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Gilligan set and filmed Breaking Bad in Albuquerque over a six-year span. The Bryan Cranston-starring drama, which earned 58 Emmy Awards over its five seasons, aired its series finale on September 29th, 2013.
