Al Gore Plots Climate Change Special With Fat Joe, Steve Aoki

Former Vice President Al Gore will host an MTV special on climate change featuring Fat Joe and Steve Aoki, August 2nd at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, Billboard reports. An Inconvenient Special will be a half-hour town hall-style conversation with young people about the effects of climate change.

The special is tied to Gores upcoming movie, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, which arrives July 28th. The film tracks the efforts made to tackle climate change since the release of Gores 2006 Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.

MTV News correspondent Gaby Wilson will moderate the town hall portion of the special, which will give young people the chance to speak out about climate change. An Inconvenient Special will also look specifically at the impact of climate change on Miami, where Fat Joe lives and where Aoki was born. Aoki will serve as a city correspondent during the special, while Fat Joe will appear in a field piece alongside 17-year-old Miami-based activist Delaney Reynolds.

In a preview clip, Reynolds explains to Fat Joe how rising sea levels are already causing regular flooding in Miami Beach. She notes that if drastic change is not taken now, the entire city could one day be under water.

Young people are one of the greatest reasons for hope that we can and will solve the climate crisis, and I am thrilled to participate in An Inconvenient Special to listen to their ideas, hopes, and concerns, as well as learn about some of their amazing work on behalf of the planet, Gore said. Young people today are creative, open-minded, empathetic, and they understand the enormous impact the climate crisis will have on them and their families. Theyre ready to make a change and put us on the path to a sustainable future, and I have no doubt in my mind they will be the generation to do it.
