Melissa McCarthy Confirmed for Gilmore Girls Reboot

Sookie is heading back to Stars Hollow. Actress Melissa McCarthyhas announced the news that she will be reprising her role as Sookie St. James on Neflixs upcoming Gilmore Girls reboot.

Literally about an hour-and-a-half ago we figured out that I am gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And [the episodes] are gonna be amazing, McCarthy said on Ellen, via The Hollywood Reporter. [Creator] Amy Sherman-Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it and Im very happy to go back to Stars Hollow Oh my gosh, theres me and Lauren [Graham, the pair play best friends on the show].

Im just really excited about that. So it just happened. And I got asked a lot about it, and as of not even two hours ago, its happening, she said.

McCarthy played Grahams character Lorelais best friend and also portrayed a chef through the seven seasons of the show, which originally aired on the WB before it moved to the CW network. It ended its run in 2007.

When the revival was announced, however, it was unclear whether the beloved Sookie character would return since McCarthy has a demanding schedule, which includes her lead role in The Boss, which opens on Friday, and her work on the Ghostbustersreboot.

Sherman-Palladino was hopeful early on that the in-demand star would appear in the relaunch. The thing I have said [to her team] is, Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, Ill write her a scene. Melissa was one of us, she told TVLinein February. She added shed even take a McCarthy cameo in the series if the actress had time for it.

However, this intel didnt seem to reach McCarthy right away. Sadly, no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow she tweetedto a fan a few days afterwards. Wish them all the best!! Earlier this week, McCarthy told Howard Stern in an interview that she was surprised she had not been asked back, but apparently that has now changed.
