The Latin Recording Academy announced that the Latin Grammy Awards will celebrate their platinum year in 2019. Widely regarded as the biggest night in Latin music, the Latin Grammys 20th anniversary show will air Thursday, November 14th, broadcast live via the Univision Network from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Though the Latin Recording Academy was established in 1997, it wasnt until September 2000 that it would hold its first annual Latin Grammy Awards. Originally broadcast on CBS, the Awards would become the first primetime telecast in English, Spanish and Portuguese languages on U.S. television. The Academy will celebrate its twentieth broadcast with a new platinum logo, designed by Blanco-Lorenz, in honor of the precious metal that was first discovered in South America.
In addition to symbolizing successful music sales, and having long, historic ties to Latin America, platinum is known for being a malleable metal, more ductile than gold or silver, and a chemical catalyst, said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of the Latin Recording Academy in a press release. Platinum is the perfect representation of the Latin Grammys for the next decade, celebrating a type of music that has learned to adapt to changing instruments, cultures, local roots, and fragmented environments, while keeping its credibility and integrity; and, yes, it has proven itself to be a catalyst for significant trends in the overall music world. We are embracing this new branding whole-heartedly as we look forward to kicking off our third decade with this milestone 20th anniversary celebration.
