Paul McCartney, Flea, Jack Bruces Family Pay Tribute to Ginger Baker


Following the death of Ginger Baker at the age of 80, many of the artists he collaborated with or influenced turned to social media to pay tribute to the late Cream drummer.

Ginger Baker, great drummer, wild and lovely guy, Paul McCartney tweeted Sunday, soon after the drummers death was announced. We worked together on the Band on the Run album in his ARC Studio, Lagos, Nigeria. Sad to hear that he died but the memories never will.

Sad news hearing that Ginger Baker has died, I remember playing with him very early on in Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated, Mick Jagger tweeted Sunday. He was a fiery but extremely talented and innovative drummer.

Baker died Sunday at a London hospital, nearly two weeks after the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummers family announced he was critically ill.

Kofi Baker, Gingers son and drummer in the tribute band the Music of Cream who told Rolling Stone of his fractured relationship with his father in 2018, added in a statement, The other day I had a beautiful visit with my dadwe talked about memories and music and hes happy that Im keeping his legacy alive. Our relationship was mended and he was in a peaceful place. Thank you all for the kind messages and thoughts. I love my dad and will miss him always.

The family of Bakers Cream band mate Jack Bruce said in a statement, The Bruce family would like to extend their sincere condolences to Ginger Bakers family, friends and fans. Surviving a love hate relationship, Ginger was like an older brother to Jack, their chemistry was truly spectacular. RIP Ginger, one of the greatest drummers of all time.

As a young musician few drummers stood taller or were a bigger musical influence than Ginger BakerI will never forget the awesomeness of seeing him perform with Cream at Massey Hall on June 5 1968 along side the late great Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton. He was one of Rocks first virtuoso drummers and his incredible legacy lives on.
