Children, Goats Go Mad in Blood-Curdling Trailer for The Witch

A skin-crawling new trailer for Robert Eggers Sundance horror hit The Witch has arrived, teasing the eerie, goat-instigated madness that undoes a New England family in the 1630s.

In the film, an English farmer, William (Ralph Ineson), is forced to move his family from a colonial plantation to a plot of land on the edge of aforest after being threatened with banishment by the church. Amidst the backdrop of their haunting new home, the familys crops fail, animals turn evil and a child disappears.

The antics of the family goat take center stage in the new clip after one of the younger daughters claims the animal said her older sister, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), is wicked.A loop of the child saying the goats name, Black Phillip, plays throughout the trailer, which shows a family member sleeping in a grave, a different goat milking blood, Black Phillip bucking wildly around, a child falling violently ill and, finally, William locking Thomasin in a shed.

The Witch, which opens February 9th, premiered at Sundance and earned Eggers the Best Director prize in the U.S. Narrative competition. The film was also named one of the 10 best Rolling Stone caught at last years festival.
