Wes Anderson Gets Tribute From Black Francis, Mike Watt and More


The fact that the soundtracks to Wes Andersons films are often as distinctive as the visual aesthetics hasnt gone unnoticed: American Laundromat Records has enlisted Pixies leader Black Francis, Mike Watt, Juliana Hatfield, Kristin Hersh and more for tribute album dedicated to Anderson called I Saved Latin!

Where Does Wes Andersons Moonrise Kingdom Rank on Our Best Movies of 2012 List?

The double-CD set, due next spring, will feature covers of 23 songs that have appeared in Anderson movies including Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Bottle Rocket, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Darjeeling Limited. The track list includes Watt and the Secondmen covering Street Fighting Man by the Rolling Stones, Black Francis version of Seven and Seven Is by Love, Hersh singing Fly by Nick Drake and Hatfield taking on Needle in the Hay by Elliott Smith, among others.

American Laundromat, a Connecticut record label, has previously released albums paying tribute to the Smiths, the Cure, Eighties movies about high school and the 1984 movie Repo Man.

The full list of artists contributing to I Saved Latin! is available on American Laundromats website, along with various pre-order bundles that include the album, T-shirts, stickers, patches and seven-inch singles.

Andersons next movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is due in theaters in March 2014. The first trailer went public last month.
