Veronica Mars Spin-Off in the Works

The upcoming Veronica Mars reboot is getting even bigger, with the fan-funded movie now getting an accompanying digital series spin-off, Variety reports. With the deal just inked, details are scarce though we know the project will be headed by series creator Rob Thomas and CW Digital and its unclear whether the webisodes will premiere before or after the films March 14th release.

The Veronica Mars Movie and 60 More Reasons to Love 2014

The beloved cult show got a second life last year when Thomas raised a whopping $5,702,153 on Kickstarterto fund a movie, more than surpassing the $2 million fundraising benchmark Warner Bros.set to determine if there was enough fan interest.Picking up 10 years after the shows finale, the movie finds Veronica, now a lawyer in New York City, returning to her hometown of Neptune, California and returning to her sleuthing ways to help clear the name of her former flame, Logan Echolls, after hes accused of murdering his girlfriend.

In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Jason Dohring, who plays Logan, spoke about the ease of reviving his character after so many years. When I read [Robs] writing, it made sense. He just knows the voice. I kept thinking, Yep, thats what Logan would say. Yep, thats what Logan would do. Yep thats how I would feel about Veronica. Reading [the script] and seeing those names on the page again really got to me.

Though the film will certainly be accessible to newcomers, Dohring said there are plenty of nuggets for fanboys to feast on. Without giving away any secrets, he recalled two scenes where Thomas kept saying, This is what the fans paid for, man, this is what the fans paid for.

I think theyll be very pleased, Dohring added of the Marshmallows (star Kristen Bells pet name for the shows fans), but also at the same time, Rob doesnt tie the story up with a bow. Nothing comes easy in Veronicas world, so theres a very melancholy/noir touch at the end that adds these cool layers.

Veronica Mars will premiere at the SXSW film festival before hitting theaters in March. If you want to catch up with the Neptune High crew now, though, you can check out the films first trailer, as well as a short documentary-style clip that offers an inside look at the new movie.
