After Hillary Clinton accepted the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention Thursday, Stephen Colbert wished that the women who helped found this nation 240 years ago were around to experience the moment. Thankfully, the Late Show was able to secure a live video feed into the Second Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776 to speak to Josephine Hindley and Abitha Whitmore or Broad Citys Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson and share the good news.
That is incredible, said Jacobson, Im going to celebrate by making a meal for my husband and cleaning it up immediately. But the conversation turned sour when the two women asked why the butter it took so long for a woman to secure a presidential nomination, Are you telling us it takes 240 years to get a female president?
As it turns out, Hindley and Whitmore accept some of the blame for the long overdue nomination of a female presidential candidate, as when they were penning the Declaration of Independence, they didnt realize that the line We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal would be taken literally. You knew that was supposed to mean all people, right? Glazer said.
Broad City, of course,have been with her from the onset, even recruiting Clinton to appear on one of their episodes earlier this year.
