Watch Stephen Colbert Spoof Mariah Careys New Years Nightmare

Stephen Colbert and the Late Show returned from their winter break Tuesday to spoof the biggest pop culture story of 2017 so far: Mariah Careys disastrous New Years Eve performance.

2016 was rough, but I am staying positive about 2017. The year is starting off great for everyone but Mariah Carey, Colbert said of the singers high profile Times Square mishap, which featured Carey struggling to perform her songs due to a faulty in-ear monitor. I blame Russian hackers. Heres the thing: Im on Team Mariah here. This was not her fault.

Colbert begins to invite Carey to the Late Show to explain her side of the situation, only his prompter cuts out and suddenly the host is flanked by dancers with large feathers who parade Colbert around the stage as he struggles to find the words to say, like Careys ill-fated performance.

Following Careys NYE mishap, both the singers team and Dick Clark Productions blamed the other for the viral moment that kickstarted 2017. Careys manager also accused the production company of keeping Careys Times Square gaffe in the Rockin Eve specials West Coast feed because they want eyeballs at any expense.

In an interview Tuesday, Carey discussed her horrible New Years experience.

All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business, Carey said. Im of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.

Mariah Carey said she was mortified by her disastrous New Years Eve performance.
