Watch John Oliver Pitch 5th Grade Superhero Johnny Strong to Hollywood

With Last Week Hiatus on their late-summer vacation, John Oliver took a break from Donald Drumpf bashing to focus on another issue plaguing our society: The non-stop barrage of superhero movies invading our multiplexes.

Every year, the market is flooded with movies about superheroes. Just this year, blockbusters included movies ranging from Mean Spider-Man [Deadpool] to Sad Man Versus Super Sad Man [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice] to The Insane Clown Posse Takes Manhattan [Suicide Squad], Oliver said. I do think some audience members are becoming fatigued from watching the same characters over and over again.

As a solution, Oliver presents a superhero he created as a 5th grader, Johnny Strong, the alter ego of student-by-day John Olivier. (No relation, Oliver joked.)

Johnny Strong is a kickass hero with a bad attitude. Hes seen a boob and he knows what the F-word is, Oliver said. He intrepidly battles villains such as Doc Bedtime, a monster made of blankets that can magically plunge the world into total darkness. And of course theres the dreaded Mrs. Thomas the clarinet teacher.

Oliver even details his homemade comics first issue, a story about Johnny Strong fighting a mutant albeit completely normal-looking cat with a laser beam and inadvertently waking up Oliviers baby sister.

Last Week Tonight returns September 25th. Until then Hollywood, I am awaiting your call, Oliver says in closing.
