Mariah Carey to Executive Produce TV Show Based on Her Life

Starz is prepping a fictional drama series based on the life of Mariah Carey, Deadline reports. The singer will executive produce the show along with Brett Ratner, best known for directing the Rush Hour franchise.

The Starz series, currently untitled, is about an aspiring 16-year-old singer working her way into the music industry and finding fame in the early Nineties. Nina Colman penned the script and will also serve as the show runner.

Careys path to stardom is one of several in network writing rooms. In April last year, Selena Gomez announced plans to executive produce a series based on her life for Lifetime. And in March, Pharrell Williams new musical film, which draws from his youth in Virginia Beach, was picked up by Fox.

Carey has been relatively quiet in 2017. She opened the year in the middle of an eight-part Docuseries, Mariahs World, on E! Not long after the final episode of the series, she released a new single with the rapper YG titled I Dont. For much of the rest of the summer, she will be on the road with Lionel Richie as part of the All the Hits tour, which brings the two stars to arenas around the U.S. and Canada.
