Stranger Things Renewed for Second Season

Prepare to venture back to the Upside Down.

Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers homage to Eighties sci-fi and horror that became an instant cult classic after premiering on Netflix this summer, has been picked up for a second season by the streaming service.

In a Season Two teaser trailer, Netflix confirmed that the series would return in 2017 with nine new episodes, and even listed what appears to be the episode names: Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back to Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain and The Lost Brother.

In the fall of 1984 the adventures continues, the teaser trailer warns; the first seasons action took place in late autumn, 1983.

When I look back at something like E.T., not only does it hold up beautifully but it feels timeless, Ross Duffer told Rolling Stoneearlier this month. We hoped that it would be the same with this. It doesnt matter if you were raised in the Eighties or not, you can connect with these characters. There are kids, teens and adults in this, so theres someone for everyone to relate to. The intention was always that this would play as a summer popcorn blockbuster. But we didnt know if it would.

At that time, although Netflixs Season 2 pickup was an inevitable conclusion, the Duffer Brothers admitted they hadnt started working on Stranger Things second seasons scripts yet. We finished this a week before it was out in the world, so right now were relaxing a bit, Ross said. But we also have hope that well get to continue the story for at least a little longer.

From Elevens alive-or-dead status to what 1980s references are next, here are some questions we still have for Stranger Things. Watch here.
