Hear William Shatner Explain His Love for Leonard Nimoy in New Clip

One year ago, on February 27th, 2015, Leonard Nimoydied at the age of 83. On the eve of what would have been his 85th birthday on March 26th, we remember the actor and artist with a special audio clip read by his longtime friend, William Shatner, which is an excerpt from hisaudio book,Leonard.

In the biography about Nimoy, an emotional Shatner (who turned 85 this week on March 22nd) recounts details about the man who he felt was like a brother (or as he explains here, a Siamese twin) after they spent time together during 79 television episodes and six feature films of the Star Trek franchise not to mentioncountless fan events around the globe. Although they had been extremely close for most of their lives, Nimoy admittedbefore his death that he had lost touch with Shatner, which came as a shock to those aware of their mythological bond. Shatneracknowledges the fact early on in the book when he states hed once had a very rare, very enviable friendship with Nimoy and then I lost it.

As Shatner reveals in this clip, Nimoy said to him while filming a documentary about Star Trek: Youre my best friend. Live long and prosper. Itserves asa poignant reminder of how bonds between people are forged but can then grow apart.
