Watch John Oliver Bash Devin Nunes for Convoluted Surveillance Claim

On Sundays Last Week Tonight, a flabbergasted John Oliver continued his ongoing report on the ties between President Trump and Russia which the show dubbed Stupid Watergate because it has all the potential consequences of Watergate, but everyone involved is really stupid. In a hilarious segment, Oliver recapped the activities of California Congressman and House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes, the most Devin Devin in the history of Devins.

Last week, Nunes asserted that President Obama may have incidentally surveilled Trumps transition team and the presidents personal communications. That initially sounded like it could back up Trumps claims that President Obama wiretapped him, Oliver admitted. But it quickly unraveled as Nunes conceded the surveillance was routine appeared to be completely legal, occurred after the election and may not have even targeted Trump or his transition team but rather foreign individuals discussing the transition.

Nunes sources, The New York Times later revealed, were from within the White House itself. Despite this, Trump initially said he felt somewhat vindicated by the Congressmans dubious claims.

Oliver recapped the logistical absurdity of the Nunes story, saying, Devin took what appears to be an unnecessary trip to tell what appears to be unimportant news to what may have been the source of the news itself. So what Nunes brought to light has turned out to be a bunch of smoke and mirrors as convoluted as it is pointless truly, it is the Now You See Me of revelations.

But the host added that Stupid Watergate found a way to get even stupider, noting that the surveillance Nunes studied concerned the transition team, of which one member was, you guessed it, Devin fucking Nunes.
