Ludacris to Host MTV Revival of Reality Series Fear Factor

Ludacris will host an MTV revival of Fear Factor, the reality series staple which forces contestants to confront fears via extreme physical and mental challenges. The updated version is expected to premiere in late May, Variety reports.

Reviving the show is consistent with the broader approach of Viacom, MTVs parent company, in moving toward unscripted programs. The network revived Fear Factor in 2011 for a handful of new episodes, but the series was canceled the following year.

Fear Factor, originally hosted by comedian Joe Rogan, aired between 2001 and 2006 on NBC. The series, based on Dutch series Now or Neverland, pitted ordinary people against each other in a series of contests: a physical challenge, a mental challenge (often involving gross-out eating) and an elaborately designed challenge with the flair of a blockbuster action movie.

On Tuesday, Ludacris released an over-the-top video for Vitamin D, his new single featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The track marks the Atlanta rappers first new material since his 2014 LP, Ludaversal, though hes yet to announce a new album.
