See Shawn Mendes Promise to Treat You Better on Fallon

Shawn Mendes returned to The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to deliver a scorching, raw performance of his single Treat You Better. The upbeat, longing track will appear on his upcoming sophomore album Illuminate, set forrelease on September 23rd.

With an electric guitar in hand, the 17-year-old singer-songwriter belted out the pop song on a dimly lit stage. The Roots served as Mendes backing band for the song, which was co-written by Teddy Geiger who also co-wrote Mendes breakout hit Stitches.

On Friday, Mendes will kick off the North American leg of his world tour in support of debut album Handwritten. Mendes opened for Taylor Swift on her 1989 world tour, which had the young singer playing stadiums. He recently announced a Madison Square Garden headlining show on September 10th.

Earlier this year, Mendes teased his new album in an interview with Rolling Stone, citing both John Mayer and Ed Sheeran as influences for his sound. The singer linked up with Sheerans frequent producer Jake Gosling for Illuminate.
