Hear Brett Youngs Surging Cover of Gavin DeGraws Not Over You

For much of 2018, Brett Young included a cover of Gavin DeGraws 2011 hit Not Over You in his live shows. Now theres a recorded version of the song, which Young cut for Spotify Singles.

Subbing acoustic guitar for the rhythmic piano intro of DeGraws recording a Number One Adult Top 40 hit Young opts for an expansive arrangement thats transposed down slightly to fit his lower register. Boasting heavy rock drums and some low-end rumbling from the piano player, Youngs version leans more on Britpop and Kings of Leon-style rock than contemporary country.

Youngs appreciation for DeGraw is well-documented, having befriended the singer-songwriter some years ago after seeing several of his shows. DeGraw reciprocated the approval on Youngs 2018 album Ticket to L.A., co-writing and performing on the biographical song Chapters.

That is exactly my life, Young told Rolling Stone before Ticket to L.A.came out. And the coolest part about it is, you dont have to fudge anything about it to tell the music part and have that be both my life and Gavins life, which made it such an easy decision to have him sing on that third verse.

Young currently has a few headlining tour stops scheduled, with the next happening February 7th at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine. In April, hell join up with Kelsea Ballerini for the Miss Me More Tour.
