Courtney Love Channels Al Green for Take Me to the River Cover


As Empires ratings continue to grow each week, the hip-hop drama has begun to roll out its many guest stars who shake up Empire Entertainment and the Lyon family. Following appearances by Naomi Campbell and Cuba Gooding Jr., Courtney Love is preparing for an arc that will begin in the shows sixth episode, Out, Damned Spot, and a song her character will be singing is now available to stream below.

The rock star and actress will be playing singer Elle Dallas, a member of the Empire Entertainment family. In her first episode, Loves character will cover Al Greens classic Take Me to the River, adding her signature rasp and snarl to the soul standard.

According to a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Love detailed that Dallas is Empire Entertainments big-selling R&B singer with a drug problem who is struggling to get back on top. She also revealed that she looked to the lives and personas of artists like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston for inspiration.

When not fronting Hole or pursuing her solo career, Love has always had a penchant for acting. In the Nineties, she had a strong run on the big screen in films like Man on the Moon and The People vs. Larry Flynt, the latter of which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Last year, Love made her big return to acting with a recurring role on the show Sons of Anarchy. Last month, she made her opera debutin Kansas City Choir Boy.

In its first season, Empirehas becomethe first show in more than 23 years to grow in total viewers over its first five episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly. It has already been renewed for a second season.
