Lena Dunham Launches Newsletter for Young Women

Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham

Between promoting her hit show Girls and New York Times bestseller Not That Kind of Girl, Lena Dunham has been building up a new project: Lenny. Alongside her production partner Jenni Konner, Dunham is preparing to launch the weekly newsletter in September.

[Lenny will be for] an army of like-minded women and the people who love them, who want to bring change but also want to know where to buy the best tube top for summer that isnt going to cost your entire paycheck, Dunham told BuzzFeed about the project. The newsletter will focus on an array of feminist and womens interest topics and will be helmed by a team comprised of editor-in-chief Jessica Grose (Jezebel, Slate), associate editor Laia Garcia (Rookie) and editor-at-large Doreen St. Flix (Pitchfork, The Hairpin). Content will come from both the staff and Dunhams famous friends and favorite writers.

With Lenny, theres no such thing as TMI; theres no such thing as self-involved, Dunham elaborates. Well be allowed to show the ugly and complicated thought processes that go into forming your own brand of feminism, and your own identity, because its not all clean back here. Grose sees the inspiration and mixture of beauty and style with politics as making the newsletter Rookies Big Sister or Goop meets Grantland.

Lenny will initially be self-funded, but the team plans on involving carefully selected advertisers and e-commerce that collaborates with independent female artists and designers in ethical, affordable and witty apparel and design items,Konner says.

Prior to the September launch, interested readers can subscribe to the newsletter here.
