Watch Sam Smiths Dapper Oscars 2016 Performance

Sam Smith gave an elegantperformance of Writings on the Wall from Spectre. Smith and co-writer Jimmy Napes are up for Best Original Song and are both first-time Academy Award nominees.

In front of a surreal, constantly changing background, a dapper-looking Smith gave a simple, soaring performance of the ballad. After his delivery of the Bond theme, host Chris Rock made a crack at how similar Smith and George Michael look, noting how much he loved Father Figure.

Smith and Napes took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song earlier this year. Other than his contribution to the latest James Bond film, the young singer had a relatively quiet 2015 following a Grammys sweep in early 2015 where he took home trophies for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The latter two awards were for his single Stay With Me off his debut album In the Lonely Hour.

Last year, Smith also had a high-profile reunion with electronic music duo Disclosure for the track Omen off Disclosures latest album, Caracal. The singer and U.K. producers rose to fame together on their collaborative sleeper hit Latch.
