Nick Jonas Discusses Canceled North Carolina Show on Ellen

Nick Jonas stopped by Ellen to talk about the decision made by him and Demi Lovato to cancel the North Carolina date of their Future Now Tour. Their co-headlining trek will kick off on June 24th in Sunrise, FL.

Along with artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jonas and Lovatos decision to call off a show in North Carolina quickly followed the states decision to institute the controversial House Bill 2 (HB2), which is known as the bathroom bill. According to this new mandate, each citizen must use the bathroom according to their assigned gender which discriminates against the trans community.

Demi and I had a lot of conversations together and with the team about the best way to handle it, he detailed of what led to their final decision. We are very aware of our strong LGBT community fanbase and the support theyve given us and the support we want to give them. And this was a time where I feel like we said we have to make a bold statement, put our foot down and stand firm in something we believe in.

Even though artists like Cyndi Lauper and Against Me!s Laura Jane Grace have maintained their North Carolina dates as a form of protest, Jonas and Lovato still stand by their decision. Its unfortunate for the fans there and for us because we want to go play as many shows as possible. But in our minds its the right thing to do, and hopefully our fans will stand united with us.
