VMAs 2019: Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X Lead Nominations


UPDATE: Taylor Swift is set to perform at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, marking her first live performance on the ceremony since playing Bad Blood in 2015. Other performers include Bad Bunny, Camila Cabello, J Balvin, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Rosala and Shawn Mendes.

Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X lead the nominees for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The ceremony will air live from New Jerseys Prudential Center on Monday, August 26th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Grande and Swift tied for the most nominations with 10 each. Swifts ME! featuring Panic! At the Discos Brendon Urie was nominated for Best Collaboration, while the songs video received nods for Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography. The pop stars vibrant LGBT-themed hit You Need to Calm Down received seven nominations: Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Video for Good, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Art Direction.

Grandes Thank U, Next swept up four nominations: Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop and Best Cinematography. Grande was also tapped for Artist of the Year and earned nominations for Best Hip Hop (Rule the World featuring 2 Chainz), Best Visual Effects (God is a Woman) and Best Editing and Best Art Direction (7 Rings).

First-time nominee Billie Eilish followed with nine nods, including Push Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction and Best Editing (Bad Guy), Best Visual Effects (When the Partys Over) and Best Cinematography (Hostage). Lil Nas Xs Old Town Road (Remix) featuring Billy Ray Cyrus was nominated for Song of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Art Direction. Both Eilish and Lil Nas X were also nominated for Best New Artist.

Halsey followed with six nods, including Artist of the Year, Video for Good (Nightmare), Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Choreography and Best K-Pop (Boys with Luv featuring BTS). Shawn Mendes received five nominations, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography (Seorita with Camila Cabello).

Cabello took home Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for Havana at the 2018 VMAs ceremony. The night closed with Aerosmith, 21 Savage and Post Malone singing Toys in the Attic.
