A sequel to the classic 1985 movieThe Goonies is reportedly in the works and might be based around a new story from original writer, producer and second unit director, Steven Spielberg, TMZ reports.

The gossip site recently tracked down Goonies director Richard Donner, who played news of the sequel as close to the chest as possible (Whats The Goonies? he responded when initially asked about the follow-up), but did let slip that of course Mr. Spielberg is involved.
Hopefully were going to get this done, period, Donner said. Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You dont do it without him. Weve been trying for a long time, then he came up with another storyline and hes right on.
When asked if any of the films original cast would appear in the sequel which boasted future stars Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman Donner said, God knows, its up to them. If they have any sense they will; if they dont, they wont.
In other words: Never say die.
