Girl Meets World Picked Up by Disney Channel


Girl Meets World, the spin-off of the popular 1990s comedy series Boy Meets World, has been picked up by the Disney Channel and will premiere in 2014. According to USA Today, the new series will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and production will begin this summer in L.A.

Girlwill feature Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprising their roles as Cory and Topanga, arguably the model couple for kids who grew up in the Nineties, as parents of an 11-year-old girl. Thats roughly the age Cory was when Boy Meets World began.

Boy Meets Worldand its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens. In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter, Riley Matthews . . . and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans, Adam Bonnett, Disney Channels Worldwide executive vice president, said in a statement.

WhileBoy was set in the suburbs, Girl is set in New York, where Riley, Cory and Topangas daughter, and her friend Maya are in middle school. Cory follows in the footsteps of his mentor and long-time neighbor, Mr. Feeny, and serves as the girls history teacher while Topanga oversees an after-school hangout for the tweens.
