FX placed a pilot order for Kurt Sutters Sons of Anarchyspin-off, Mayans MC, Varietyreports.
The show will take place after the events of the Sons of Anarchyfinale and focus on the motorcycle clubs rivals, the Mayans. In the original show, the California-based Mayans peddled heroin, and in Mayans MC, one of the members, EZ Reyes will grapple with his desire for revenge against a drug cartel and his need for the women in his life to respect him.
Mayans MCis scheduled to shoot its pilot in March, with Sutter directing. Sutter co-wrote the script with Elgin James, a budding writer/director whose troubled childhood in Boston found him jumping between punk communities, gangs and juvenile detention. In 2007, James was profiled in Rolling Stoneas a member of Friends Stand United, a band that formed in the late Eighties out of the Boston hardcore scene. He wrote and directed his first movie, Little Birds, in 2011.
Sons of Anarchyended in 2014 after a seven season run.
