Star Wars: Episode VII Resumes Filming as Harrison Fords Leg Heals

Production onStar Wars: Episode VIIhas resumed this week at Londons Pinewood Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter, following Harrison Fords on-set injury (allegedlyinvolving Han Solos Millennium Falcon) and subsequent surgery, which put the sequel on a two-monthfilming hiatus.

Ford, who was healed enough to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last week, willreprise his rolein the film, along with original cast members Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker. Joining the old guard will be fresh facesAdam Driver, Lupita Nyongo, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.The films director, J.J. Abrams, co-wrote the Episode VIIscript with Lucasfilm veteran Lawrence Kasdan, whoreplaced original screenwriterMichael Arndt.

Details on thesequel are scarce, though its known that the films plotwill take place 30 years after the events of1983sReturn of the Jedi. In May, the crewfilmed some scenes in Abu Dhabi, sparking reportsthat Abrams wastryingtorecreate the desert landscapes of Luke Skywalkers home planet, Tatooine.

Filmmaker andStar Warsnerd Kevin Smith visited Episode VIIsLondon set earlier this summer, and he gushed about the movie.So we go to the set, and theyre actually shooting and this is what I cant tell you what they were shooting but what I saw I absolutely loved, Smith said. Despite Fords injury and the filming hiatus, Disney and Lucasfilm say the sequels release date of December 18th, 2015 will not be affected.
