News of the terror attacks in Parisspread as The Late Showwas in the midst of filming its Friday episode, and as the taping drew to a close, Stephen Colbertwas tasked with alerting his studio audience of the tragedy unravelingin France.

Folks, we end tonights show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonights show and then we found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today, Colbert told his audience (via The Daily Beast). I know that not much is known right now. We do know there have been many deaths. The price is still ongoing. President Hollande has declared a state of emergency and President Obama has promised the United States will do whatever it takes to bring those terrorists to justice.

The short speech was reminiscent of Colberts powerful monologuefollowing the shooting at an Oregon college in October. We add our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Paris and now, um, well see you on Monday Colbert told the crowd Friday, followed by a moment where the host was rendered speechless by news of another atrocity. After a deep exhale, an emotional Colbert could only muster a Goodnight.
