Watch Aimee Mann Perform Silky Goose Snow Cone on Colbert

Aimee Mann performed a moving rendition of her new singleGoose Snow Cone on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday. The song will appear on Manns new album, Mental Illness, out March 31st via SuperEgo Records.

Mann partnered with Late Show band Jon Batiste and Stay Human for the performance, singing over an arrangement that opened with a simple acoustic guitar melody. The arrangement included strings, silky background vocals, simple percussion and the occasional piano twinkle, all of which paired beautifully with Manns affecting vocals.

Mental Illness marks Manns first album in five years, following 2012s Charmer. The singer previously described the new record as the saddest, slowest, most acoustic, if-theyre-all-waltzes-so-be-it-record she could write, playing on the popular belief that she generally makes really depressing music.

I dont know people may have a different viewpoint but thats my own interpretation of the clich about me, Mann said. I mean, calling it Mental Illness makes me laugh, because it is true, but its so blunt that its funny.
