Syfy has picked up a TV revival of the horror-comedy Tremors, with Kevin Bacon returning to the role he first played over 25 years ago.
In 2015, the I Love Dick star, who co-starred with Fred Ward in the original 1990 film, first expressed interest in reprising the role of Valentine McKee, who fought against giant, subterranean worm-like monsters in cult classic film. On Monday, Syfy made the revival official by picking up the series pilot.
This is the only character Ive played that Ive ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, where would this guy end up after 25 years? Bacon, who also executive produces the series, said in a statement. [Screenwriter] Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it. The revival will take place 25 years after the monsters dubbed graboids first invaded the town of Perfection, Nevada, with McKee once again forced to defeat the creatures despite battling age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex, the Hollywood Reporter writes.
Tremors spawned four straight-to-video or made-for-TV sequels; while Ward reprised his character in Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Bacon has not appeared in a Tremors film since the 1990 original.
Its unclear if anyone from the original cast will also appear in the revival, which marks Syfys second attempt to make a Tremors TV series: 2003s Tremors: The Series was canceled after one season.
