Watch Paul Reubens Defend Weirdos Everywhere on Portlandia

If the weirdos of the world ever needed their own Atticus Finch, few would be better suited for the job than Paul Reubens. And indeed, the man behind Pee-wee Hermandutifully rises to the challenge in this new clip fromthe season finale ofPortlandia, which airs this week on IFC.

The clip finds Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisens charmingly morbid goth characterson trial for being their lovable weird selves. After a dismissive statement from the prosecution claiming their obvious weirdness in and of itself proves them guilty, Reubensdelivers an impassioned opening salvo, rife with bizarre noises and irrefutable declarations.

Weirdos are what made this country F-T-R-O-N-G! he proclaims, before reminding the court, Benjamin Franklin was a weirdo. Do normal people fly kites with keys attached? No! Weirdos do. The burly, bearded fellow in the matching red, white and blue bandanna and peace-sign sunglasses certainly knows what Reubens is talking about.

While the fate of Brownstein and Armisens goths and Portlandias weirdo community at large seems to be in safe hands, be sure to check out how the trial ends when Portlandia wraps up its fifth season March 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on IFC. The episode will also include appearances from Seth Meyers and Olivia Wilde.

As for Reubens, the comedian recently confirmed his beloved character Pee-wee Herman would star in a new movie for Netflix, Pee-wees Big Holiday. Reubens has been hammering out the detailsof the film for several years with Judd Apatow, and wrote the script with comedian Paul Rust, whose credits includeComedy Bang! Bang! and Arrested Development. Big Holiday will be directed by John Lee a go-to director for shows like Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer and is scheduled to begin production in March.
