UPDATE 2: Steve-O has been sentenced to jail for for 30 daysafter pleading no contest totrespassing and illegal use of fireworks, according to the Associated Press. He also received three years probation and must reimburse the city of Los Angeles $14,000.
UPDATE:Steve-O has been charged with five misdemeanors stemming from his SeaWorld protest, reportsABC 10.The charges includeone count each of creating a false emergency, use of unregistered fireworks, storing fireworks without a permit, possession of fireworks without a permit and trespassing. Steve-O is due in court on August 31st and faces up to 4 1/2 years in jail if convicted of all charges.
Jackass star Steve-O was arrested in Los Angeles Sunday night after climbing a crane ina protest against SeaWorld. The daredevil scaled a 100-foot crane above Sunset Boulevard holding an inflatable Shamu balloon with the words SeaWorld Sucks, atwhich point he detonated fireworks from the crane. After climbing back down, he was promptly arrested on several charges, including conspiracy to commit trespassing and filming without a permit, the Associated Press reports.

The day before his arrest, Steve-O, holding the Shamu inflatable,warned his Instagram followers, This is Shammy. Were gonna do a big dangerous stunt tomorrow in Los Angeles that will probably get me in a lot of trouble. Inspired by the 2013 documentary Blackfish, which alleges the mistreatment of killer whales at the theme park, Steve-O staged a similar protest in 2014 when he hijacked a freeway sign outside San Diegoto change SeaWorld Drive to SeaWorld Sucks. Steve-O was only cited in that incident, as he and his crew fled the scene before police arrived.
However, Steve-O faces more dire consequences for his latest protest. According to the AP, because law enforcement were unsure whether or not Steve-Os stunt was a suicide attempt that required rescuing, 80 firefighters, five ambulances and a helicopter were deployed to the scene.
Additionally, a fire department spokesperson said Steve-Os stunt forced rescue crews to divert from an actual emergency, as a crane operator at the citys harbor required medical assistance. Some of the resources on this hoax could have been devoted to a real emergency, the fire department spokeswoman said.
