Samantha Bee delved into the latest developments or lack thereof in the ongoing government shutdown and cleverly compared the catastrophic situation to Fyre Festival on Full Frontal Wednesday.
In the segment, Bee touched on the back-and-forth between President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the State of the Union, as well as the numerous federal employees, such as air traffic controllers, who continue to work long hours without pay. Imagine what dangers a skeleton crew of overworked, under-slept air traffic controllers might pose we dont have enough Sullys for that! Bee cracked.
The Full Frontal host also looked at how negotiations to end the shutdown have effectively stalled not because Democrats refuse to budge on Trumps border wall, but because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wont bring to the floor a bi-partisan bill that would get enough votes to override a presidential veto. More so, Bee noted that Democrats have no incentive to compromise with Trump due to his extensive record of reneging on promises, whether it was saying hed protect DACA recipients, then ending the program, or saying hed protect the LGBTQ community before banning trans people from the military.
Giving Donald Trump $5 billion for a wall in 2019 would be like investing in the Fyre Festival in 2016, Bee joked. Nancy Pelosi is the sweet Dutch pilot whos telling us, Everything about this is terrible, you have to give people water and a place to shit! Mitch McConnell is FuckJerry, the social media team complicit at every level but trying to pretend he has nothing to do with this shitstorm.
